A Course in Miracles Heals through Spiritual Psychotherapy
A Course in Miracles is a brilliant form of spiritual psychotherapy which brings peace, purpose, love and joy into our lives. My work with you supports practical application of Course concepts--together we can transform your life by using your body, your relationships, your work, etc., as symbols of Love rather than fear.
Rather than just talking and trying to fix problems using our head or brain, we invite the Holy Spirit to help us solve the riddle of who you really are. In the spirit of Gestalt psychotherapy, we approach your issues as brilliant creative adjustments to seemingly insoluble situations. When we were babies and young children, we unconsciously adapted to our parents and environment by developing defense mechanisms. Psychological defenses actually operate through the body: we tense our muscles, hold our breath, become who our parents need us to be, or rebel and become the opposite.
We need to raise your level of awareness about your own defense mechanisms--what they are and how you activate them. It usually seems as if our reactions happen to us, so we need to slow you down and detect the unconscious patterns you actually selected so we can help you undo them and find the original you. We work in partnership to raise your self-awareness through a process of support and challenge.
In addition to talking, we use breathing techniques and body work (this can be subtle)--alignment, use of gravity, systemic relaxation and tension, to help you regain access to deeper levels of yourself. Emotional healing requires body awareness because the body is where all the unconscious material resides. The body is the unconscious symbol of the ego thought of separation. Paradoxically, embracing the body ultimately liberates us from the body. In the same way, observing our ego identity, and then completing our idea of being an individual through realizing our potential, self-actualization, etc., leads to reconnecting with our true God-Self.
At first, you may need more intrapersonal work--strengthening your relationship with yourself. Inevitably this leads to interpersonal work--learning effective communication skills, e.g., opening your heart, firming your boundaries, in order to have satisfying interactions with others.
As you develop self-awareness, you may have a spiritual awakening and experience Self-awareness. God takes it from there :)
